OpenManage is a suite of tools that give users the ability to monitor and manage servers remotely. And, its tools provide users management and monitoring abilities for PoweEdge servers with high performance computing (HPC) clusters. OpenManage is a flexible integrated solution that reduces IT complexity by enabling users the ability to maintain their systems at a reduced cost. They are then able to run larger applications such as infrastructure management tools.

The suite is divided into four CDs. Each CD has a specific use in the system management process. Users receive an Installation and Sever Management CD, Systems Management Console CD, Services and Diagnostics Utilities CD, and Documentation CD. Users can also download update packages from the Dell website.

The Installation Services CD contains three tools which allow users to access server administrations, array managers, and server assistants. Users receive a step-by-step system configuration utilities for installing operating systems including a RAID controller and other network devices for Dell Systems. Users can review and report hardware, firmware, manage software configurations, and the status of a server or host-based RAID subsystem. With this CD, users can also configure, monitor, and manage the storage devices attached to their server.

The Systems Management Console has four tools to help users with IT assistance, remote access controllers, array manager consoles, and baseboard management controller (BMC) management utility (BMO). This CD also enables use of web-based graphical user interfaces to monitor notification mechanisms and console alerting.

The Services and Diagnostics Utility CD has utilities, updates, and tools to help diagnose operating systems. Users receive the latest BIOS, firmware, and OS-based online diagnostics. If a user wants an updated utility, they need Microsoft Windows to extract the drivers. And, the diagnostic utilities can only address problems on individual servers not network level servers.

With the Documentation CD, users can access its manuals to help troubleshoot their systems. It also contains documentation for RAID controllers, drive installation, and documentation for adapter cards and modems.

As the number of nodes in a HPC cluster increase, the ability to manage them effectively is essential. OpenManage Software Suite gives administrators the power to monitor and manage their systems without the complexity and cost.
